Sedation dentistry

Dr. Eunice Kim DDS from Gentle Dentistry in Mount Vernon Washington talks about how sedation dentistry helps patients afraid of the dentist deal with their fears. Many people avoid the dentist because of the anxiety or fear of pain.

We often use sedation dentistry to handle root canals, crowns, dental cleanings, fillings and other dental procedures. Sedation dentistry is very safe and the same pill is used in other medical treatments.

Call our Mt. Vernon office today at 360-424-1990 to learn more about sedation dentistry and to schedule a free consultation. For a limited time we are offering new patients free initial sedation.

Is A Perfect Smile Possible in Everett?

Littleton Cosmetic Dentistry Are you considering a smile makeover in the Everett area? Are you skeptical of promises of a ‘perfect smile’ a ‘celebrity smile’ or ‘a dazzling, youthful smile’? Let’s talk about the most popular Everett cosmetic dental procedures and the results that can be expected.

Composite Veneers
The application of porcelain veneers at Gentle Dentistry can remedy a multitude of aesthetic dental problems and is often a better cosmetic dental solution for candidates in the Everett area than dental bonding. Veneers can correct tooth chips, tooth cracks, minor tooth misalignment, tooth discoloration, unattractive tooth shape, and disproportionate tooth size. Can a porcelain veneer create a perfect tooth? While a veneer cannot fix a decayed tooth, it can turn an unsightly tooth into an aesthetically perfect tooth.

Tooth Bleaching
Everett teeth whitening is a non-invasive cosmetic dental treatment that dramatically improves a smile. However, some Everett tooth whitening dentists will guarantee fantastic results for any patient that desires a whiter smile. At Gentle Dentistry in Everett we only recommend tooth bleaching for clients that are good candidates for the process. If you have all-natural teeth that are dull or stained, tooth whitening will brighten your smile. If you have several dental crowns in the front of your mouth, or gums that have receded, conventional tooth-whitening may not improve your smile.

Tooth-Colored Fillings

If you have a mouth full of metal fillings, you may be interested in tooth-colored fillings. To get an idea of how the inside of your mouth would look without metal, have someone without any fillings open their mouth. Do you remember when your mouth looked like that? Would you like to bring your smile back to its pre-filling appearance? It is possible with tooth-colored fillings at Gentle Dentistry.

These are just a few of the cosmetic dental solutions that create perfect smiles for our Everett clients. You can see a complete list of our services at http://www.gentledentistrymtvernon.com/.

Burlington Dentists And Your Mouth Sores

Burlington Dentists And Your Mouth Sores As your local Burlington dentist, one of my roles is to help you take care of your mouth. Sometimes mouth sores can be an issue, and while Burlington dentists often defer to an oral surgeon for extreme cases, we can help you make an assessment.

If you live in the Burlington area and have a mouth sore that lasts more than a week or two; come and see me. Mouth sores can be an indicator of disease, and an early assessment is the best bet. A better understanding of your mouth sores can lead quickly to comfort and a resolution. If necessary, treatment and pain relief can be offered.

There are two common types of mouth sores that are common in the Burlington area; canker sores and cold sores.

Canker sores are small ulcer-like sores with a white or gray base and a red border. They are found on the inside of the mouth and while they are not contagious, they can be painful. Typically a canker sore heals in a week or two. Antimicrobal mouth-rinses, over-the-counter topical anesthetics, and avoiding spicy and acidic foods may offer you temporary relief while your sore is healing.

The cause of a canker sores is not certain. Possible explanations range from a cut on the inside the mouth, and reactions to extreme temperatures or acids from food or drink, to fatigue, stress, and allergies. Some studies point to bacteria or viruses, or combinations of all these factors.

Cold sores, also called fever blisters or Herpes Simplex, are groups of fluid-filled blisters that often appear around the lips, sometimes appearing under the nose or around the chin. Cold sores are contagious and painful, but usually heal in about a week. Some over-the-counter anesthetics may provide relief. There are some antiviral drugs on the market that have shown promise in reducing outbreaks, but there is currently no known cure. The initial infection, known as primary herpes, often occurs before adulthood. Once the virus infects you, it may stay in your body and remain inactive or cause occasional cold sore outbreaks. Outbreaks may be triggered by a fever, sunburn, skin abrasions, stress, or exposure to extremes in temperature.

As your Burlington cosmetic dentist, I can’t do much to stop canker sores or cold sores in your mouth. I can discuss the health of your mouth, and examine any causes that make your mouth sore. In some cases a change in the way you care for your mouth can reduce the chances of getting mouth sores. If you are in Burlington WA, and would like to speak with a dental professional about mouth sores, area give us a call at Gentle Dentistry.  We also offer cosmetic dentistry and sedation dentistry services.

Our number is 360-424-1990.

A New Reason To Eat More Fish In Burlington

Burlington Family Dentists Hello Burlington dental blog visitors, welcome to the Gentle Dentistry blog. I am Dr. Eunice Kim.

I came across an interesting dental article on the Web MD Health News site the other day. The article is entitled ‘Fatty Fish, Nuts May Prevent Gum Disease.’ Author Jennifer Warner explains that a recent study links diets high in polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) with a lower risk of periodontitis.

Gum disease is a common dental issue for many Burlington folks. When gum tissue pulls away from a tooth, it forms a pocket. (You know what they say about Nature abhorring a vacuum.) This pocket is a warm, moist place for bacteria to flourish. If periodontitis goes untreated, the tooth and jaw bone are at risk. During dental examinations, I carefully measure gumline pockets and examine all teeth for gum disease.

“Researchers found that people whose diets were rich in PUFAs were as much as 30 percent less likely to have gum disease than those who ate little or none of this type of fat.”

Foods high in PUFAs include salmon, tuna, trout, mackerel, sardines, herring. Oils high in PUFAs include safflower oil, soybean oil, corn oil, sunflower oil, and margarines made with the previously mentioned oils. Almonds, pine nuts, walnuts, pecans, brazil nuts, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds and flax seeds are high PUFA nuts/seeds.

I don’t know many families in Burlington that regularly eat mackerel and herring. Maybe some of us could benefit from becoming more adventurous when it comes to seafood.

The possible prevention of gum disease is not the only reason to eat high PUFA foods. These foods pack a nutritional punch and have myriad health benefits. The next time you are stocking up at the Burlington Costco, you may want to add some salmon and walnuts to your list.

It is important to understand that diet alone will not treat or prevent gum disease, however it may be an additional tool for maintaining healthy teeth and gums.

If you have not been to your Burlington general dentistry practice in a while, I urge you to schedule an examination and cleaning today. We are currently taking new Burlington dental clients at Gentle Dentistry.

If you are interested in teeth whitening, smile makeovers, tooth-colored fillings or dental veneers, call us today to schedule an appointment.

Teeth Whitening Dentistry In Mount Vernon

Tooth Whitening Dentistry In Mount Vernon

Teeth whitening has really taken off in Mount Vernon. It has become a popular dental procedure and can provide excellent results if done properly.

There are a lot of options when it comes to teeth whitening. You can choose from a selection of over-the-counter options that you can get at your local pharmacy, or can go to a professional to get a complete tooth whitening solution.

It is a good idea to consult with your dentist before a teeth whitening, regardless of whether you choose to use an over-the-counter product. Your dentist will be able to help you understand the results you can expect, and can help recommend a product that will work for you.

There are many variables when it comes to teeth whitening. The color of your teeth at the beginning of your treatment will make a difference for your ending result. Different tooth whitening treatments will each produce a different result. Your Mount Vernon dentist has experience with tooth coloration and the types of treatments available.

In many cases, your Mount Vernon dentist will be able to provide you with a tooth whitening solution that you can take home with you. In some cases, your Mount Vernon dentist may recommend a professional treatment that is done at the dentist’s office.

Professional teeth whitening can produce dramatic results in a single treatment, and is often done over a few treatments.

Teeth whitening is less expensive than it was in the earlier days of tooth whitening technology. Today, teeth whitening treatments are very affordable, and don’t take the time they used to.

If you are interested in a teeth whitening consultation in the Mount Vernon area, please call Gentle Dentistry and make an appointment to see me. I will be happy to give you a check up, assess your tooth color, and recommend teeth whitening treatments that may be right for you.

How Mini Dental Implants Can Help Your Smile In Mt. Vernon WA

How Mini Dental Implants Can Help Your Smile in 98274 I’m Eunice Kim, a dental implant dentist in the Mt. Vernon area. For the last several years, traditional dental implants have been used to dramatically improve the lives of my Mt. Vernon denture and cosmetic dentistry clients. Today’s topic is the mini dental implant, sometimes called an ‘immediate implant’.

Though they are not as well known as traditional tooth implants, mini implants are also being used successfully in the Mt Vernon WA area to improve smiles. Like their larger diameter counterparts, mini implants can support a restoration for one or more missing teeth or replace a bridge or fixed denture. Tooth restoration clients and denture wearers benefit greatly from these slip free dental implants that are anchored securely in the jaw bone.

In some cases, a patient is unable to receive traditional full-size dental implants due to insufficient bone thickness. There are also mini implant patients who are not able to undergo dental implant surgery due to health issues. These Mount Vernon overdenture patients are often excellent candidates for the mini version.

The placement of a toothpick-size mini dental implant can usually be done in one dental visit. The placement usually requires no incisions or stitches. Recovery time, if necessary, is usually very short. Most patients are able to eat dinner that evening.

Many Mount Vernon aesthetic dentistry clients are happy to learn that mini implants are a lower cost dental implants option. Don’t let the word ‘mini’ fool you; Your smile can receive a maximum upgrade with mini dental implants.

Call Gentle Dentistry at 360-424-1990 to schedule a consultation.

Aesthetic Dental Transformations in Mount Vernon

Aesthetic Dental Transformations in Mount Vernon Many Mt Vernon professionals, students and retirees are enjoying the lasting benefits of cosmetic dentistry. A beautiful smile not only looks great, it makes you feel great! When you first look in the mirror in the morning while brushing those gleaming babies, you remember; oh yeah, I fixed my teeth and they look fantastic!

When you smile at old friends or make new ones, you are happy to show off your new movie-star grin. When you are in a professional setting speaking with colleagues or clients, you feel poised and super confident.

We have talked about different cosmetic and restorative dental procedures available in Mt Vernon WA in previous blog articles, but let’s review the most common.

Veneers are glass-like, wafer-thin covers that adhere to teeth. Porcelain veneers are strong and have the translucency of natural teeth. They correct chips, stains and misaligned teeth that do not require orthodontia. There are several companies that fabricate veneers. One of the most well-known brand names is Lumineers.

Dental crowns correct more extensive tooth problems. They are used in a variety of situations such as the final restoration following a root canal or to restore teeth damaged by decay, injury or periodontal disease.

Dental implants are one of the best fixes for a missing tooth. They are becoming a popular and effective alternative to bridges and partial dentures in Mount Vernon, Burlington and surrounding areas, especially among middle-aged professionals and people in the public eye.

Bridges are another strong, natural looking replacement for one or more missing teeth. They have been used with success for many years.

Professional tooth whitening in your Everett dentist’s office is the least invasive and quickest way to brighten your smile several shades.

If you are interested in any of these safe and effective procedures, schedule a consultation at Gentle Dentistry today. Even if you are still a bit hesitant, remember: discussing your options with a cosmetic dentist does not require a commitment of any kind. It is merely a relaxed way to get the most reliable information.
